If you're not getting Fly Buys you're just spending money
Today more than 70 percent of New Zealand households are actively engaged with Fly Buys. It launched back in 1996 and is considered globally as one of the world's leading loyalty programmes. In 2010 Fly Buys expanded on their offering by providing an iPhone app that allows users to login and check their points balance. Another simple and fast way to check your Fly Buys balance is by SMS. Just TXT BAL to 359 (which spells FLY so it's easy to remember) and they will send a message straight back. You need to register for the service first which can be done online in your profile or by calling 0800 FLY BUYS (0800 359 2897).
You can also use SMS to redeem a reward. If you're browsing through the Rewards Guide that turned up in your letter box and you decide there is something that you'd love to have then simply text the 5-digit reward code to 359. You'll get a reply message confirming that they've received your request and your request will be processed as normal. It couldn't be easier!
At Modica we're extremely proud to power this service for Fly Buys for the last few years through our secure and reliable SMS Omniscience platform. If you need a SMS gateway to transport messages and talk to your customers then please get in touch with one of our account managers.
New Zealand Mobile Message Services Code
At Modica we are often asked about industry guidelines when it comes to launching and advertising an SMS service. We are part of the working party that has helped to create the latest version of Code which is freely available for anyone to view. The new Code comes into effect from the 7th of March 2011 but is currently available on the Telecommunications Carriers Forum (TCF) website. This update to the code covers guidelines and standards as agreed by the major players in the Mobile Marketing industry including Telecom and Vodafone.
If you're about to launch a subscription SMS service (or any other type of Mobile Marketing service) then the Code is the source of info that will explain exactly what to put in your advertising and what steps you need to take for things like unsubscribing them.
